Dahlia Wakefield

Singer - Songwriter
Dahlia Wakefield Bandhi-res-dra-4

“A little bit country and a whole lot of rock & roll” describes the music of Dahlia Wakefield, an award-winning, charismatic, soulful powerhouse country rock singer-songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with three commercial solo albums under her belt, and also two more from the female country rock quartet called the “Dirt Road Angels”, who released their new EP “Paint The Town Red” at Festival Place on Sept 28th, 2014.

In addition to the “Dirt Road Angels”, Dahlia also performs in her own four-piece pop/rock/country band “Dahlia and the Value Villains”, formerly Dahlia and the Two Handsome Gentlemen”, featuring Alan Tymofichuk on guitar, Steve McGonigle on bass, and Ben Samuels on drums. Since August 2014, this configuration has been playing an enticing, high energy, danceable mix of country, pop/rock, classic rock, and Top 40 hits … there is something for everyone and the dance floor proves it!  Dahlia occasionally performs as an acoustic duo with Alan Tymofichuk as well.  In the past, she has performed in acoustic trio “Triple Threat”, as a solo act at the Edmonton International Airport, with 60s/70s band “Brass Bedpost”, for almost 10 years in The “X-Factor” as well as other bands she fronted in Lloydminster where it all started with her very first band for the annual CKUA benefit.

Dahlia (PRON: DALE-yuh) has also had the honor of singing our National Anthem for the Edmonton Eskimos at Commonwealth Stadium, at the Canadian Nationals Finals Rodeo #41 (CFR 2014) and at the Tim Horton’s Brier both at Rexall Place; at the Alberta Legislature Building.  She has also sang the American and Canadian Anthems for the Edmonton Indy car races and the Colas Cup (a wonderful charity hockey tournament in St. Albert) , for the Edmonton Prospects baseball team at Telus field, and at many more venues. She has shared the stage with and/or opened for many well respected artists such as Tom Cochrane, Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw, Colin Raye, Kira Isabella, High Valley, The Roadhammers, Blackjack Billy, Albert Lee, Nokie Edwards of the Ventures, John Jorgenson & Will Ray of the Hellecasters, Lisa Hewitt, Duane Steele, George Canyon, PRISM, and more.

In February 2014, Dahlia released her single “Unsatisfied”, a song from the 2013 Dirt Road Angels compilation CD, to country radio across Canada. “Unsatisfied” is a song about finding your true love while living life to the fullest! It was a song pitch from Nashville and was written by Tony Marty, Rebecca Marshall, and Kerry Singleterry, produced by Rob Hewes.  Winning the 2013 Global Country Star Search in her category resulted in a trip to Nashville where Dahlia competed in the 2014 North American Country Music Associations International (NACMAI) competitions in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and was the recipient of four awards – two for her singing performances, one songwriting award for “Little One”, and one for her video for “Simple Things“.

A performer since age five and a songwriter since age 15, Dahlia moved to Edmonton and graduated with Distinction from the music program at Grant MacEwan University. Several of her songs have placed as high-ranking finalists in several international songwriting contests such as International Songwriting Contest, Billboard Music Contest, Windrift Music Contest, and Song of The Year, with her original songs “Die For You”, “I Believe”, “Magic Wand” and more. Her songs have also been played on various commercial and community radio stations across Canada including CBC Radio, CKUA, as well as many internet stations worldwide.  Check out her originals on iTunes:  https://itunes.apple.com/ca/artist/dahlia-wakefield/id29056780 as well as the Dirt Road Angels’ music :  https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/paint-the-town-red-ep/id971899444!

Currently, Dahlia is busy writing, recording, and performing with Dirt Road Angels as well as the Value Villains. It’s a hectic schedule but it’s her passion. “I absolutely love recording, experimenting with ideas, and layering harmonies.  Seeing part of a song written on a restaurant napkin to finally hearing the final product is so rewarding!”  When Dahlia isn’t performing, writing or recording, she enjoys being a vocal coach and beginner piano teacher at  Dance Theme in Edmonton and formerly Cooper Studios in Sherwood Park as well as a Mom to Jasmine (10) and Jade (7).  From as long as she can remember, music has always been and always be her passion – she’s like a fish out of water without it.  Dahlia looks forward to recording some new material with both bands and a lifetime of making music!
